2016 Little Athletics ACT Relay Carnival – Saturday 12 November 2016

The 2016 Jetstar Little Athletics ACT Relay Carnival will be held on Saturday 12th November 2016 at Woden Park Athletics Centre. There will be no meet at Cook Oval on this day. The relay carnival is open to all registered Jetstar LIttle Athletic ACT athletes. For details on these Championships please (Click Here) for the flyer. Please (Click Here) for the draft event schedule. This may be adjusted depending on the number of athletes competing. Please note there will be a number of Championship events held on behalf of Athletics ACT. Placing teams in these events only will receive medals. All Little Athletic athletes will receive a participation ribbon and if their team finishes in the placeings another ribbon will be awarded. We do not require individual athlete entries for this Carnival however it would be greatly appreciated if you could indicate your attendance by filling in the Relay Form on our noticeboard of your plan to attend by Saturday 5th November. This will allow for the smooth running of the Carnival. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the Little Athletics ACT office on 62471296.
U13 to U15 Development Squad
The successful Little Athletics ACT (LAACT) U13 Development Squad for all registered LAACT U13 athletes will be returning in 2016/17 and LAACT are very excited to announce that the invitation to participate in the squad will be extended to athletes in the U14 and 15 age groups. The aim of the U13-15 Development Squad is to provide the athletes with specialist coaching in a squad environment. The purpose of the squad is to assist the athletes to reach their potential and provide them with the best possible opportunity to gain selection in the ACT team for the Australian Little Athletics Championships (ALAC) for athletes in the U13 and U15 age groups and selection to attend the U15 Little Athletics Australia (LAA) Camp for athletes in the U14 age group. Please note that participation in the squad is not compulsory and does not guarantee selection in the ACT team for ALAC or attendance at the U15 LAA camp. There will be a total of four squad days during the season. A squad day will be held on the following dates between 10.00am – 12.30pm at Woden Park in Phillip:

2016/17 will see the introduction of education sessions for the athletes delivered by industry specialists. The sessions will begin providing the athletes with helpful information that will assist with their training and competition (i.e. nutrition, psychology, recovery, etc). Queanbeyan Gift – Saturday 26 November 2016
The Quenbeyan Gift is an annual event held at the Queanbeyan Town Park and attracts large crowds due to its nature, setup and the quality athletes that attend to compete.
As the name suggests, the Queanbeyan Gift is based around staggered starts or more commonly known as Handicaps. By that we mean the faster athletes are closer to the start line and the athletes that are not quite as fast are further away from the start line. In short, the idea of the handicap starts is that if everyone performs at their personal best then anyone can win the races.
An example would be athlete ‘A’ runs from scratch and athlete ‘B’ runs from 11m. That would mean that athlete ‘A’ starts at the start line and athlete ‘B’ starts from 11m in front of athlete ‘A’.
Queanbeyan Little Athletics has had an arrangement with NSWAL for a number of years and as part of the Queanbeyan Gift, NSWAL continually invite us to be part of this great event to showcase our athletes and give them a chance to sprint in front of large crowds, which alot of little athletes don’t get a chance to do.
If your athlete would like to enter the Queanbeyan Gift, please note the following details:
The Gift is on the Saturday 26th November 2016.
Heats and finals are all held on the Saturday, so if you’ve done well enough you will be required to stay there until later in the afternoon to take part in the final.
The information required here is for the Little Athletics side of things, which is free but there are a lot of other events available and if you are over 12yrs you can enter them all for a small fee.

ResultsHQ – How to view your Results
Last season the centre moved to the Timing Solutions online results system for storing all results information from regular season meets. Families can log in to review their childrens results across the season, print tickets for each performance (if desired) and generally see how they are improving over time. Results take a few days to enter into the system, with the exception of the races run on the straight track where the timing gate results are uploaded within a few hours of the meet. To access results families can log into ResultsHQ by following the steps set out at the following link: ResultsHQ Your username (for all children in your family participating) is the email address that you used to register this season. Club Training – Wednesday 9 November 2016
Belconnen Little Athletics Centre will be holding training at Cook Oval, Biffin Street, Cook on Wednesday 9 November 2016 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. Training this week will focus on relays and the technical aspects of baton changes. Club coach Nicole Roberts will be in attendance. All welcome.
How to Register
Registrations for the 2016-17 season commence on 5 August 2016 for children aged 5 to 17 years. A child who turns 5 during the season (1st October to 31 March) may also register. These athletes will then remain in the Under 6 age group for two seasons. Check the Age Calculator to determine the applicable age group. Fees for the 2016-2017 season are as follows (cost per athlete): first child $125, 2nd child $115, 3rd child $105, 4th child $95, 5th child $75. Proof of age is required for all new athletes (those not previously registered with an ACTLAA affiliated centre). We continue to take registrations after the season has commenced. Registrations received after 8 October 2016 will be charged an administration fee of $10 per family. A refund of registration fees will only be made if you advise our Registrar prior to the commencement of the season and will incur an administration fee of $10 per family.
Step 1 – Registration
Online registration is available using the ACTLAA Online System, or access via Little Athletics ACT. We would prefer that parents/carers do not pay online but pay either through direct debit or in person when collecting their registration kits (see Step 2). This is to avoid the online fee charged to the Club. Please also record your receipt number. Registrations can also be made at one of our registration days (see Step 3)
Step 2 – Payment
If paying by direct debit, please use our Centre’s bank account, as follows: ▪ – Account Name: Belconnen Wests Little Athletics Centre ▪ – BSB number: 062 911 ▪ – Account Number: 10077933 ▪ – Details: For individual athletes, use Athlete’s first name and surname e.g. JamesSmith. For families, use Eldest athlete’s first name, surname and “family” e.g. SarahJonesFamily. If paying by cash or cheque, you do not need to do anything else until you drop in at one of the BLAC Registration Days to pick up your registration kit.
Step 3 – Registration Kit
Come along to one or our registration days at the Canberra Southern Cross Club Jamison to pick up your registration kit, held on:

▪ Wednesday 14 September, 5:30pm to 7:30pm Each child will receive a registration kit, containing:

Season 2016/17 Results
BLAC uses an online system for storing and presenting the results of our athletes. Every family will be able to log in to the Timing Solutions ResultsHQ website to see results for their children and track performances across the season. Because this is the first time we are using the system we are learning its functions and full capabilities as we go along, so we appreciate your patience. Your username is the email address you provided when registering your child/children this season. Please follow the “if you do not know your password” process (step 2. below) to retrieve your password for logging in. Your Committee needs you … Following on from our AGM at the end of last season our Club still has a few vacancies on our committee which need to be filled. The positions which are currently vacant include Vice President, Canteen Manager and Fund Raising Co-ordinator. The roles are not onerous, and you will have a lot of fun working with like minded people sharing a common interest to better the experience of our children in the sport of athletics. Please consider volunteering for one of our Committee positions to ensure that our club keeps producing great little athletes for years to come. What is Little Athletics?
Belconnen Little Athletics Centre (BLAC) has been running for over 40 years, and is part of the ACT Little Athletics Association (ACTLAA). Little Athletics aims to promote and foster athletics amongst children and young people, through friendly competition in a well-run, safe, enjoyable family environment. We encourage the development of skills and fitness in children of all levels of ability. Little Athletics is not focused on identifying elite athletes, although we do foster talent. There is a place for everyone at Little Athletics.
