Due to wet weather the 19th February training session is Cancelled.
The championship program will continue as per schedule this weekend 22 Feb. The washed out program from last week will be held on March 15.
We have set Saturday 5th April 10am at Cook oval as the date for the BWLAC Presentations and Annual General meeting. Please mark this date in your diaries. More details will follow over the coming weeks.
Note that at the AGM all committee positions are declared vacant and the committee for the following season is elected. There already are a number of vacant positions on the committee, and there are current members who will not be seeking re-election.
Being on the committee is the best way to get involved with the operations of the club. The more people interested the better the little athletics experience for our children will be, and of course 'many hands make light work' for the committee themselves. We always receive helpful suggestions from parents at our meets - the best way to see them realised is to volunteer.
Please do not hesitate to have a chat with a committee member at one of our meets to ask about what is involved. We can assure you that the little A's experience will be the richer for you and your family.
Parent/Carer attendance at Saturday meets
It has been brought to the attention of the Committee that some children are being left at Saturday morning meets with no parents/carers in attendance. We would like to remind all parents/carers that their involvement is fundamental to little athletics. Unlike team sports, without a substantial level of participation from parents, centres simply can not operate effectively.
It is BWLAC policy that at a minimum, parents/carers must physically be in attendance at centre meets with their children. We are not a child minding service. If something happens to a child, which is always a risk with a physical activity such as athletics, then you need to be there to look after them.
Training sessions have commenced, held each Wednesday at Cook 5:30-6:30pm. Each session will concentrate on a couple of disciplines, see the schedule for details. This season we have UC exercise physiology student Bradley Close leading our coaching sessions. Bradley is a former little athlete and current senior athlete who has coaching experience from the NSWIS in all athletics disciplines.
What is Little Athletics?
Belconnen Wests Little Athletics Centre (BWLAC) has been running for over 40 years, and is part of the ACT Little Athletics Association (ACTLAA). Little Athletics aims to promote and foster athletics amongst children and young people, through friendly competition in a well-run, safe, enjoyable family environment.
We encourage the development of skills and fitness in children of all levels of ability. Little Athletics is not focused on identifying elite athletes, although we do foster talent. There is a place for everyone at Little Athletics.
